I have spent the past 17 years researching and evaluating school improvement and reform. I love learning about what makes schools work. As a school board member I will use this knowledge and expertise to both hold our schools and our educators accountable, but also to communicate what is happening in our schools to our parents and community.
School Boards are teams. At their best, each Member is dedicated to the children of the district and each Member brings his or her talents to the team to help support the district. I will bring my background knowledge and analytical skills to the Board team.
I work on projects providing research and evaluation to help improve schools in communities throughout the nation. I will use my knowledge and background in schooling to set high expectations and to hold our schools accountable. I have Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Maryland and a PhD in Policy Analysis from the Pardee RAND Graduate School. My work and education gives me knowledge and experience to dive deep into the data and understand what is happening in our schools.
Transparency is a one of my core values. Our parents trust the school with the safety of their children. As a member of LPS Safety and Mental Health Advisory Committee it became clear to me that working to increase transparency is a key need for our district. I will work to increase district transparency.
Our community makes a huge investment in our schools: through the taxes we pay, volunteer hours spent in our schools and support we give to the families in our community. Transparency is key to building and maintaining community support for our schools. I will make sure the data produced by our district is easily accessible and understandable.
